NIGHT 026: SECOND HOUSE

|| FIRST FLOOR In the Open Hallway the Crows seem unusually agitated, and will quickly swoop down to peck at anyone who walks through the area. Their beaks are sharp, drawing blood on their victims. This seems to be the intent of the creatures, as they will begin to worry open wounds, lapping up the blood. They will not follow anyone out of the hall. The Lady In White has taken up residence in the Rough Kitchen, though she sees to be human tonight. She appears very agitated, pacing from one end of the kitchen to the other. She stops at the fireplace on occasion, stirring one of the pots hanging over the open flame. Mushrooms, berries, and herbs lay on the hearth stones, drying in the heat of the flame. There are three pots hanging over the flame, two hold a thick jelly like substance that smells of fruit. The smell of it cooking fills the kitchen. The other, smaller pot holds a few mushrooms and herbs, and bubbles fragrantly, clearly some sort of soup. Grains have been gathered, and at some point she seems to have taken the time to use a hand mill to grind enough for bread, as the roughly shaped loaves now bake in the oven. Still, these domestic tasks do not seem to hold her entrance, and her agitation with the room is clear to any who enter. Her eyes go time and time again to the door that leads to the Third House. The Shadow Man is sitting at the desk in the Priest’s Study, reading one of the books. Though it is impossible to judge his expression, he seems almost bored with the handwritten tome, but he does not stop reading. He also seems to have little interest in those that decide to invade his space, ignoring them with such a studied level of indifference that it is impossible that he isn't watching their every move. If a house-guest turns their back to him, they will be struck by the impression that he is suddenly behind them, but turning back around will find him still studying his book. In the Junior Dormitory, someone has been sketching at the desk. The pages are full of pictures, each of the same child, though a few other familiar faces appear amid the scribbles. Shion is easily recognizable, and his guardians with him. Some of the pictures seem to have been drawn from an intimate position, such as the child being held while he was being put to sleep, or bath time, but all are very accurate, as though the artist spent a great deal of time watching the child. Anyone who attempts to remove the pictures from the room will find themselves overcome by a sense of panic and wrongness, as though something deeply important to them is on the verge of being ripped away. They will begin to hear the sound of an infant crying, and that sound will haunt them for the rest of the night. Rose stands in the middle of the Wallpapered Parlour, balled fists on her hips. She stares up at the ceiling with intense focus and a pout, periodically mumbling quietly. Her concentration is overwhelming, her air completely serious and grace, but it is not unbreakable, even if she seems to be engrossed with whatever important task she has created for herself. She doesn’t even seem to notice the blood dripping from the gash in the side of her dress. In the Plain Kitchen, an entire meal has been laid out on the counters and on the stovetop, abandoned in the middle of preparation. Half-peeled vegetables have been thrown into a pot of cold water. A pie sits baked made, the crust incomplete. In the oven is a roast duck, unevenly cooked but having long since gone cold.
